Workshop follow up activites -Castles!
We hope your child had a fantastic time at their Castles workshop in school and learnt lots about how castles were built and the reasons they were decorated with flags. To continue to build upon their knowledge from the workshop and develop their love of outdoor learning, why not work together to create their very own crown using natural resources?
Make your own nature crown!
Nature crowns are a great way to Reuse and Recycle, using cardboard and other resources found around the house and garden, and a brilliant way into imaginative play which enables children to explore the world around them, hone their problem-solving skills, as well as develop their language and social skills. This activity provides the perfect opportunity to combine outdoor learning with imaginative play to support your child’s mental health and well-being (the natural environment is known to help with this), whilst also encouraging them to become a confident, creative young person! All the information you and your child need to create a nature crown can be found below! Have fun!
A crown or strip of cardboard large enough to go around your child’s head
ScissorsDouble-sided sticky tape (or normal sticky tape/glue if you don’t have any double sided)
Natural resources (leaves, feathers, grasses, any other interesting things you’ve found)
Together with your child, think and talk about:
Imagine you are a king, queen or member of a royal family wearing your crown. What would your first royal rule or decree be?
What makes crowns look regal?
Can you create a crown that represents you and/or your family?
What materials are used to create real royal crowns? Why are they chosen? What properties do they have?
What other royal clothing can you make using natural, reused or recycled items?
