Measuring mass

LO: To measure the mass of objects.

National Curriculum Objectives covered:

To measure and begin to record mass/weight.

During this outdoor lesson your children will use your school grounds to explore the mass of different objects using balance scales and nature and look at how to record mass.

Comparing mass

LO: To compare the mass of objects.

National Curriculum Objectives covered:

To compare, describe and solve practical problems for mass/weight.

Deepen your children’s understanding of mass and how to record it through the use of natural items. Within this outdoor lesson your children will work through an investigation to compare the mass of objects using non-standard measurements.

Measuring capacity

LO: To measure the capacity of containers.

National Curriculum Objectives covered:

To measure and begin to record capacity and volume.

The main activity of this outdoor lesson gives your children the opportunity to explore how to best measure the capacity of containers using non-standard measurements. They’ll also complete some team challenges to practise this skill.

To compare, describe and solve practical problems for capacity and volume.

During this outdoor lesson your children will work together to estimate, measure and compare the capacity of containers using non-standard measurements. Expect lots of excitement and water fun!
