• To recognise and name common 2-D shapes, for example, rectangles (including squares), circles and triangles.

Develop your children’s fluency of recognising 2D shapes using puzzles and active maths games. This outdoor lesson gives your children the opportunity to name common 2D shapes and start to explore creating them with unique and easy-to-setup activities.

Deepen your children’s understanding of repeating patterns with this outdoor lesson. By using just your outdoor space and nature, your children will create their own repeating patterns using 2D shapes, while consolidating their ability to recognise and name them too.

The main activity of this outdoor lesson encourages your children to work together to explore, recognise and name 3D shapes, using sticks and your outdoor space. By creating 3D shapes they will start to become familiar with their names and properties.
