Introduce your children to the term half using this outdoor lesson. They'll begin by drawing upon their existing knowledge to recognise halves of shapes, then extend this into finding half by creating various mud pies! A lesson they’re sure to remember!

The main activity of this outdoor lesson encourages your children to work collaboratively to use natural resources found in your outdoor space to find half of a quantity. This leads them nicely into the plenary activity, creating transient art to represent halves.

Deepen your children’s understanding of quarters by asking children to use natural items found in your outdoor space to investigate finding quarters of various quantities. This outdoor lesson will encourage your children to work collaboratively, as well as challenge themselves to reason about quarters.
